State police said a Schuylkill County man died at a hospital Saturday, one day after going into cardiac arrest while authorities used a stun gun and handcuffs on him.

Police said troopers responding to a report of a disturbance found Lucas Markus, 33, running up and down a street in Girardville around 4 a.m. Friday, trying to get into passing cars.

Police said the Minersville man didn't respond to verbal commands from the troopers, so they used a stun gun to subdue him. As he was being handcuffed, he went into cardiac arrest.

Troopers called for an ambulance and began CPR. Markus was flown to a Reading hospital, where he was pronounced dead Saturday. An autopsy is scheduled.
