Man convicted of cruelty for beating neighbor’s dogs with bricks

Willie Enoch, 56, of Tioga, was convicted of animal cruelty for beating his neighbor's dogs with bricks outside her home on the 3700 block of North 19th Street.

A Tioga man accused of beating his neighbor's dogs with bricks over the summer has been found guilty.

Willie Enoch, 56, was convicted Friday of two counts of cruelty to animals, along with possessing an instrument of crime.

Philadelphia police brought two dogs to the Pennsylvania SPCA's Erie Avenue shelter Aug. 27, after their owner found them bleeding outside her home on the 3700 block of North 19th Street.

Both animals were treated for injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, prompting the PSPCA's Humane Law Enforcement team to launch an investigation. Enoch was arrested Nov. 4.

His conviction came after a municipal court trial featuring the testimony of Humane Law Enforcement and Philadelphia police officers, as well as a forensics veterinarian, according to a news release from the PSPCA.

The dogs injured in the attack have since healed and been placed in "loving, permanent homes," CEO Jerry Buckley said in a statement.

Enoch is slated to be sentenced Feb. 6. He has also been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation, court records state.

Anyone wishing to report animal abuse is urged to call the PSPCA's cruelty hotline at 1-866-601-SPCA.
