Man charged after explosives found in Port Richmond home

A 31-year-old man is facing charges after authorities say explosive devices were found in his Port Richmond home.

Police officers serving a narcotics warrant on the 2600 block of East Thompson Street on Thursday morning found incendiary devices believed to be pipe bombs.

Nicholas Suozzo was taken into custody. He has been charged with possessing weapons of mass destruction, causing catastrophe, possessing a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute and other offenses, the District Attorney's Office said today.

Suozzo is being held on $3 million bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 1.

The Philadelphia police bomb squad removed the devices from his home and disposed of them.

"This very well may have been a situation that will keep a lot of people from dying as a result of what he may have been planning," Chief Inspector Evelyn Heath told 6ABC. She said officers also found notebooks that contained comments about police and FBI officials.

In a separate incident on Thursday, narcotics officers serving another warrant on the 1800 block of East Thayer Street believed they found a live grenade in a home. The bomb squad was called to the residence, and device turned out to be a practice round.
