Legislators check on progress at 69th Street

UPPER DARBY TWP. Two legislators plan to tour SEPTA's 69th Street Transportation Center West Terminal on Thursday to check out the progress of a multimillion-dollar project begun last year to revitalize the century-old facility.

State Sen. Tom McGarrigle and Rep. Jamie Santora, both Delaware County Republicans, will visit the Upper Darby transportation hub starting at 8:30 a.m. By bus they will travel along Trolley Routes 101 and 102, where track is being replaced, ending the tour in Aldan.

The work is part of SEPTA's "Rebuilding for the Future" initiative, a transportation improvement program aimed at tackling a $5 billion backlog of projects.

At 69th Street, $19.6 million is being used to replace tracks and add surveillance cameras and more seating, among other updates. The center is also slated to be more energy-efficient.

Both projects are expected to be completed by early September.
