HARRISBURG, Pa. - The state Department of Agriculture has issued citations to the owner of the Chester County kennel where Vice President-elect Joe Biden recently bought a puppy.

In a kennel inspection report posted online Monday night Linda Brown, owner of Wolf Den kennel, was cited for violating the dog law for failing to provide records for dogs purchased or sold and failing to produce complete rabies vaccination records for her adult dogs.

Rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs over three months of age.

Dog wardens also found a strong ammonia smell inside the house where a number of dogs are housed, and broken wires and piping in several outdoor kennel areas. As a result they issued warnings for maintenance and sanitation and will conduct a follow up inspection in the near future, the report said.

Brown could face fines of up to $500 for each citation. It was the kennel's first negative inspection report in five years.

Brown, of Spring City, who also operates as Jolindy's German Shepherds, holds a commercial kennel license that allows her to keep more than 250 dogs. She had 84 dogs on the property when the inspection took place on Dec. 10.

Biden bought the six-week-old male German Shepherd puppy from the kennel earlier this month.

Why do the dog wardens from the Bureau of Dog Law only give citations and warnings when they are accompanied by Kennel Compliance Specialists? How did warden Maureen Sidons miss these things over the past years? Why isn't she fired?

I am not surprised !!!! Actually, it is about time a true inspection was done of this property !!! Someone was getting paid for false inspections reports, that couldn't be more than the obvious! Finally, this place will be cleaned up, and hopefully this breeder will lose her licence, since producing over 200 dogs a year, was more of a profit set up, than the love and good care of these poor dogs! Thank God !!!

Yet another puppy mill -- While MILLIONS of healthy, happy, WORTHY dogs (and cats) are Put To Death in animal shelters because there are NOT enough homes for them (Please people -- SPAY AND NEUTER your pets!!) - the puppy mills keep churning out more and more puppies. This is DEPLORABLE. Joe Biden, RETHINK your decision -- there are plenty of Dogs in Rescue groups and shelters in Delaware WAITING for a new home -- ONE of them could become YOURS!!!! Save A Life - ADOPT a Cat or Dog from a Shelter. A Pet is for Life.

Funny, the link to the PDF of the December inspections shows no violations: http://services.agriculture.state.pa.us/KennelInspections/Reports/DisplayReport.aspx?ID=2cc23c43-0c07-4140-86b4-aefc2b8d510b

As an owner of 4 dogs rescued from PA puppy mills, I find it disgraceful that the soon to be VP of our country would buy a puppy from a mill. What kind of message does that send? These poor animals are being bred and bred and bred just to line someones pocket. Organizations such as Main Line Animal Rescue work tirelessly to get the word out about how horrible these place are and then the VP to be drives up in his motorcade and undermines everything. What a sin!!!

Joe Biden is a class act and did not know about the conditions at this kennel. But he should have - its part of a pet owners job to investigate where the dog comes from and I bet he is rethinking this decision now. He could make a wonderful statement about this problem by saying he has changed his mind and will adopt a dog from a rescue or a shelter.

Or could it be that we will finally see the truth behind the puppy mill myth????? She was cited for cobwebs--geez I have cobwebs in my house. Broken wire???? it happens. Cudos Biden, for supporting someone trying to make a living in this day of unemployment. And as far as the Obama dog goes, they need to purchase a dog from a breeder to be sure they are getting a dog that won't cause the little girl's allergies to get worse. How will they know a shelter dog is really a specific breed????? There is no way. I knew the minute I read the first article about Biden purchasing a dog, that there would be trouble. Animal Rights people think of nothing else, they are all fruitcakes.

In the state of PA law states that a puppy cannot be sold until it is 7 weeks, why did he get a 6 week old puppy and why wasn't either cited for this? This is the problem with puppy mills, shame on him!!!!!

So here's the question. Are police officials connected to the government involved in some kind of set-up where taxpayers are paying for dogs from this puppy mill for police systems?

Has this breeder been properly paying taxes? Numbers of dogs bought and sold not recorded, so is INCOME? Is there tax cheating going on?

It doesn't appear most of you have enough information to make the leap that this lady is running a puppy mill. Biden's reference came from a police dog trainer and these would appear to be superior German Shepherds with most sired by dogs from Germany. Just because this lady is on the edge of Chester Co doesn't instantly equate her with puppy mills. If she's done wrong, you can bet the publicity will come back to bite her. Before any of you try jumping on my post, know that one of our dogs came from a shelter during the past year. There are reputable breeders...we'd just like to see the mall pet shops shut down, where many of the puppy mill victims end up. Shut down the demand and the puppy mills will soon follow.
