Grand jury charges doctor in the deaths of a female patient and seven infants at filthy West Philadelphia abortion clinic.
District Attorney Seth Williams releases a 260-page Grand Jury report after a West Philadelphia abortion doctor was arrested for the murder of one woman and seven live infants. Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the report charges, routinely delivered live babies in the third trimester of pregnancy, then murdered them by "sticking scissors into the back of the baby's neck and cutting the spinal cord."
Usually when covering a press conference, I keep an eye on the person at the podium. But here, as the DA decribed detail after horrific detali from the grand jury report I began watching the reactions of the deputy and assistant DA's - professionals who have seen a lot. I realized even though they were already familar with the gruesome details, it was clear this was not standard stuff.
One newborn who weighed almost six pounds was so big, the report said, "the doctor joked . . . this baby 'could walk me to the bus stop.' "
