The son of notorious abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell was shot by a college student while breaking into a Mantua house this morning that was two doors down from his own, according to a police.
Around 7 a.m., 22-year-old Baron Alexander was caught inside a rowhouse on Brandywine Street near 37th and was shot four times in the lower back and knee by one of the residents inside, who is a college student, police said. Alexander was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he is listed in stable condition.
Both a police source and Southwest Detectives Lt. John Walker confirmed that the man who was shot is Gosnell's son, Baron Alexander. In 2012, Baron Gosnell changed his name to Baron Alexander, saying that the Gosnell name was haunting him. Alexander was his middle name.
"My last name stopped me from getting an intership and I would like to drop my last name to prevent this from happening again," he said in a petition.
Apparently, things haven't turned around for Alexander since then. Walker said said he broke into the house around 5 a.m. and was in the downstairs portion of the home for some time gathering electronics like an Xbox and Wii, which he piled up under a window outside the house. Around 6:50 a.m., Alexander went upstairs, where the residents - current and former college students at Temple University, Drexel University and the University of Pennyslyvania - were sleeping, police said.
As Alexander tried to steal one resident's cell phone, the student woke up and they started fighting, Walker said. The fight carried downstairs, where Alexander grabbed a bayonette that just happened to be lying around the house. Alexander threatened the man with the bayonette and another roommate grabbed a gun and shot him as he ran out of the front door and collapsed on the porch, police said.
That porch is just two doors down from the house where Alexander lives. While Alexander no longer wanted his father's name, he did keep his dad's house in Mantua, according to property records.
Last year, Kermit Gosnell was convicted of murdering three babies who were born alive in his shoddy West Philadelphia abortion clinic, the Women's Medical Society, where he also kept parts of aborted fetuses in jars.
