Girl, 15, charged with murder in Point Breeze stabbing

A 15-year-old girl is facing murder charges after another teenager she allegedly stabbed last week died.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office said today that 15-year-old Amber Hellesten is being charged with murder in the death of 14-year-old Azim Chaplin.

She was previously charged as an adult with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and other offenses in the Feb. 11 stabbing on the 2100 block of Watkins Street in Point Breeze.

Chaplin was stabbed in the chest in the evening incident. Police have said an argument may have precipitated the attack, though authorities haven't disclosed what exactly sparked the stabbing.

Chaplin was seriously injured and taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he clung to life for several days before dying on Sunday.

A preliminary hearing for Hellesten is scheduled for March 4.
