Del. gas station clerk accused of sexually assaulting customer

Shell clerk Fnu Rajasekhar-Kuram sexually assaulted a Philadelphia woman inside the bathroom of the gas station on Christiana Road in Newark, Del., police said.

An employee of a Newark, Del. gas station was taken into custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a customer inside the store bathroom early Friday.

The victim, identified only as a 21-year-old Philadelphia woman, was shopping at the Shell station at 1148 Christiana Road about 12:20 a.m., according to preliminary information provided by the Delaware State Police.

She placed several food items on the sales counter, but the clerk, 30-year-old Fnu Rajasekhar-Kuram, insisted she take the merchandise for free, police said. The woman then went inside the store's bathroom.

Rajasekhar-Kuram allegedly followed, used a key to enter, and asked the woman to expose herself to him. When she refused and ordered him to leave, he began touching her inappropriately, police said.

The two struggled, but the woman was eventually able to break free, leave the bathroom, and call 911, according to investigators. She suffered a minor injury but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Rajasekhar-Kuram, of Newark, was arrested and arraigned on a charge of first-degree unlawful sexual contact. He was jailed at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, unable to pay $5,000 secured bail.
