A Delaware County woman was arrested Friday after her 3-year-old child was found wandering the streets alone, police said.
Officers with the Nether Providence Police Department received a call around 8:45 a.m. reporting that an unattended small child was walking around a Garden City neighborhood.
Though the temperature at the time was 28 degrees, the child was wearing only a t-shirt and shorts, investigators said.
When police arrived, the caller pointed them toward a nearby residence. Investigators said the front door was open and a child could be heard yelling inside.
After speaking with the 3-year-old child, officers allegedly determined he had been left alone at the home. The child was taken back to the Nether Providence Police Department, where Children and Youth Services was notified.
Police said the child’s mother, 32-year-old Shavon Buckley, was found about an hour later.
Buckley was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.
A judge on Friday set Buckley’s bail at $50,000. She’s next due in court March 24 for a preliminary hearing.
Children and Youth Services workers placed both the 3-year-old and a second child belonging to Buckley in the care of relative.
