Crews respond to reported explosion at West Deptford plant

Emergency crews are responding to a report of an explosion at a West Deptford chemical plant.

Authorities were called to the Johnson Matthey facility on the 2000 block of Nolte Drive around 7 a.m. after an explosion was reported.

Workers at the Gloucester County plant have been evacuated.

Hazmat crews were treating at least one person who was exposed to an acid and they were evaluating other potential patients. Conditions weren't immediately available.

Officials are investigating what caused the explosion.

Fire and medical emergency responders, as well as prosecutors, have been called to the scene.

The West Deptford plant employs 173 people, according to the company's website.
