Cops: Serial bank robber sought in Philadelphia

Police and the FBI are looking for a serial bank robber who has targeted four different banks in Philadelphia this month.

The FBI said today that investigators believe the same suspect is responsible for three bank heists and one attempted robbery between Dec. 11 and Tuesday.

In each of the cases, the robber has entered the branch and handed the teller a threatening demand note, the FBI said. The suspect has then obtained cash and fled on foot.

Officials said the robber has not displayed a weapon in any of the incidents, and no injuries have been reported in any of the cases.

The string of crimes began with the attempted robbery of the Beneficial Bank at 1600 Chestnut Street in Center City on Dec. 11.

Other robberies, believed to be committed by the same man, were then reported on Dec. 15 at the PNC Bank at 230 S. Broad St., also in Center City, and on Dec. 18 at the Valley Green Bank at 7226 Germantown Avenue in West Mount Airy.

The most recent heist occurred Tuesday, when the robber hit up the Prudential Savings Bank located at 1722 S. Broad St. in Point Breeze just after 10 a.m., authorities said.

The FBI described the suspect as a black man in his 30s who is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and has a medium build and medium complexion. He has worn glasses in all but one of the robberies.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 215-418-4000.
