Lindenwold police say a naked man high on marijuana and PCP assaulted an officer and tried to steal his patrol car.

Police said an officer was conducting interviews outside the Arborwood Condos at 511 E. Gibbsboro Rd. shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when a naked man ran up to him and punched him in the face.

The officer had trouble controlling the man, who broke free and jumped in the cop's patrol vehicle.

Officers got the man, identified as 28-year-old Byron Neville, out of the car, but he broke loose again and ran away, authorities said.

Neville was apprehended after a foot chase.

Police said he was believed to be under the influence of marijuana laced with PCP and was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. He was later jailed on $200,000 bail.

Neville is facing charges of carjacking and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

The officer didn't need medical treatment, police said.
