Police are hunting for a man who allegedly jumped into the Schuylkill River Wednesday afternoon to avoid officers giving him chase.

Investigators said the man was in 30th Street Station when he dropped a bag containing narcotics and a firearm.

As Amtrak police officers attempted to approach the suspect shortly before 2:30 p.m., he allegedly jumped off the Market Street Bridge and into the river.

Police said, as of 3:30 p.m., the man had still not resurfaced. His identity has not been released.
