Commuter alert: Cop, civilian crash ties up N.E. traffic

A car driven by an on-duty police officer and a car driven by a civilian collided at Cottman and Torresdale Avenues this morning in Northeast Philadelphia, impacting local traffic during rush hour.

Neither the officer nor civilian appeared to have serious injuries. The civilian complained of pains, however, and was taken to Aria Health Systems Torresdale campus.

The crash at about 7:22 a.m. tied up traffic throughout the heavily traveled area on the border of the Tacony and Holmesburg neighborhoods, as police were forced to close down local roads.

Check back for details as they develop.
