Child rescued after falling into manhole in Fairhill

An 11-year-old boy is recovering after falling into an uncovered manhole Tuesday afternoon in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia.

Police said it happened shortly before 2 p.m. on the 2900 block of North Philip Street.

Rescue crews were able to retrieve the child. Medics took him to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where he was listed in stable condition.

It wasn't immediately clear what led to the fall. The incident remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon.
