Forecasters say there's a chance the Philadelphia region could see small amounts of snow tonight and early Friday.

The National Weather Service says to expect a mix of rain and snow beginning this evening, with any snow most likely between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

"There may be a very slight accumulation of snow on grassy areas and cars later tonight," the weather service's outlook says.

The rain is most likely to turn to snow northwest of the Interstate 95 corridor, in the Lehigh Valley and northwest New Jersey, forecasters say.

Philadelphia and other places closer to I-95 "could end up with a skiff of snow" following the rain, the weather service said.

People throughout the eastern United States should brace for a drop in temperatures with snow in the forecast for the Great Lakes into New England, according to AccuWeather.

The high temperature today is forecasted to reach just 46 degrees, well below normal, with an overnight low of 33 degrees expected.

With the near-freezing temperatures, forecasters are warning that any rain or snow that falls overnight could form ice patches if the mercury dips low enough.

For Friday, the weather service is calling for sunny skies and high temperature of 45 degrees. Highs of 44 degrees and 47 degrees are expected for Saturday and Sunday, respectively, with overnight lows around 30 degrees.

Going forward, forecasters are expecting high temperatures to remain below 50 through at least the middle of next week.

Trace amounts of snow are relatively common in the Philadelphia area during the first half of November, but it's unusual for the white stuff to accumulate this early in the season.
