Light snow in Philadelphia, N.J. today

Scattered snow showers are falling in the Philadelphia area and parts of New Jersey today -- the first full day of spring.

The National Weather Service says there's a chance of light snow through mid-afternoon, and snowfall is most likely before 2 p.m.

The service put the odds of precipitation at only 40 to 50 percent. But by 8 a.m., light snow had already been reported around the region.

Scattered snow showers could affect the entire Interstate 95 corridor from Boston to Washington, D.C., according to AccuWeather.

The weather service says some snow showers could reduce visibility, so motorists should use caution.

Little to no accumulation is expected in most of the area. In northwest Chester County, about an inch of snow was on the ground, according to the weather service. But in other parts of the region, snow wasn't sticking to the pavement, the weather service said.

At Philadelphia International Airport, light snow was falling beginning at 7 a.m., though no accumulation had beeen recorded as of shortly after 9 a.m.

High temperatures today are expected to be in the upper 30s.

The weather service also says there's more potential for snow next week. Chances of rain and snow are predicted for Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday.

That precipitation is expected to be vary across the region, with some areas seeing a mix of rain and snow and others seeing rain only.
