Cape May County house explodes and injuries reported

A house in Cape May County exploded shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday and two people inside reportedly suffered serious burns, according to initial radio reports.

The explosion occurred on East Atlantic Avenue in the Villas section of Lower Township, the reports indicated.

"The house exploded and is down on the ground," a responding firefighter told Cape May County dispatch at about 3:45 p.m.

Officials with Lower Township police could not immediately be reached.
