Busy traffic weekend ahead for Philly

First, the good news: There's a lot going on in the Philadelphia area this weekend.

Now, the bad: Getting to and from those events will likely involve dealing with road closures and traffic jams.

The busy traffic weekend kicks of with scores of fans traveling to South Philadelphia tonight to see the Phillies take on the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park and hear the Rolling Stones play at the Wells Fargo Center.

The ballgame starts at 7:05 p.m., while the Stones' concert starts at 8 p.m. The Phillies also play at home Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

And all weekend, music fans will be heading to the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Del. The festival is expected to draw 6,000 people, and reports of traffic jams en route to Dover were already cropping up this morning.

On Saturday and Sunday, triathletes will take on the water and roads in Fairmount Park for the TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon. Numerous road closures will be in effect, including the entire length of Kelly Drive between Fairmount Avenue and Lincoln Drive on Sunday.

Vehicle access to the east side of Fairmount Park will be limited, and no parking will be available in Eakins Oval, on Waterworks Drive or on Lemon Hill. On the west side of the river, the entire length of Martlin Luther King Jr. drive will also be closed.

Out in Manayunk, Main Street will be closed from Green Lane to Shurs Lane for the Manayunk Arts Festival -- the largest outdoor fest of its type in the region. Some SEPTA bus detours will be in effect due to the festival, the transit agency says.

Plus, the first official weekend of summer looks to have near-perfect weather, so there may also be heavy traffic with beach-goers headed to the Jersey Shore.
