Man accused of killing Bucks woman in crash found in Peru

A Bucks County man who flew to South America the day after allegedly killing a woman in a car accident in 2010 was arrested in Peru, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.

Nelio Sotomayor-Sanchez, 46, was found in Lima this month, officials said. They expect him to be extradited to Bucks County to face charges that include homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. He is separately charged in federal court with unlawful international flight to avoid prosecution.

Sheree Maillie, 55, a teacher's aide at Newtown Middle School, was killed when Sotomayor-Sanchez's Volkswagen Beetle crashed head-on into her Chrysler PT Cruiser in Middletown Township two days before Christmas.

Sotomayor-Sanchez was trying to pass another car illegally by driving in the opposing traffic lane when the crash happened, authorities allege. He was injured and later discharged from a hospital.

He moved to Tampa, Fla., less than two weeks later, and was charged with the crimes in February 2011. The day after, he flew from Florida to Colombia and then to Peru, his native country, the District Attorney's Office said.

Bucks prosecutors are working with the U.S. Justice Department to extradite Sotomayor-Sanchez, they said.
