Boy, 14, accused of murder in fatal York shooting

A 14-year-old is facing murder charges in connection with a shooting early Saturday in the city of York.

Leonard Anthony Green III will be charged as an adult, with the approval of the York County District Attorney’s Office, police said.

Green III allegedly shot and killed 17-year-old Patrick Winter, of York, shortly before 12:30 a.m. outside a home on the 300 block of King Street. Police said Winter was found in the driver's seat of his red BMW and pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told detectives the victim was sitting in the vehicle as he picked up some girls from a party, according to an affidavit of probable cause obtained by The York Daily Record.

After several females got into the car’s backseat, Green walked up and told Winter to lower the driver’s side window, the affidavit states. Green then allegedly stuck a gun inside and opened fire, striking Winter in the chest.

Witnesses were able to identify Green from social media sites and from being at the party, police said. He was taken into custody shortly before 6 a.m. at a home on the 500 block of South Duke Street.

Green allegedly admitted to shooting Winter during an interview with detectives. The motive for the crime was not immediately clear. He remained jailed Saturday at the York County Prison, where he was being held without bail.

Anyone with additional information about Winter’s death is asked to contact the York City Police Department at 717-849-2219.
