Bolaris: The '70s making a comeback

The last time we hit 70 degrees was back on November 2nd of last year. That is a HECK of a long stretch so if your wondering why your heating bills have gone zoom, zoom, zoom it's because the thermometer has gone down, down, down.

Finally the worm is turning: a very mild, southwesterly flow will set up Friday and temperatures will respond nicely. I do believe we should hit 70 with a few places south and west of town climbing into the low 70s. One caveat is that clouds will be on the increase today, keeping rising temperatures in check. The worst case scenario is that we hit 69 degrees instead of 70, but what is a degree or two among friends.

Friday night, our spring tease will be briefly interrupted by a band of showers moving in mainly after 7-8 p.m., meaning the Phillies game could be delayed at times as the rain movess in during game time, so I'm issuing a Poncho Alert.

Your weekend

Truly, spring will be in the air as early morning clouds and showers on Saturday clear, winds swing westerly (west winds bring us the mildest temps during the spring and bake us in the summer), sunshine pops out before noon and readings will kiss 72 degrees.

Phillies game Saturday night

Skies clear.

Game time temp: 64

Wind: Southwest: 10 mph

Sunday, after some early morning patchy fog, temperatures will soar well into the 70s with abundant sunshine.

Phillies game Sunday afternoon

Skies: Sunny.

Game time temp 73 degrees, perfect for tailgating. Have a brew for me.

Wind: Southwest, 15-25 mph

Word of caution for all shoregoers this weekend, temperatures right along the beach front will be some 10-20 degrees cooler. The ocean is still mucho cold in the 40s!

Saturday shore temp: 64 degrees

Sunday shore temp: 50s.

Back to work/school Monday:

The warmest air mass since Oct. 7th of last year, when we hit 80 degrees, will take a run at us, and depending on just how much sunshine we get and exact wind component, more of a southwest wind than southerly, we stand the chance of hitting 80 degrees in a few places from the city and all points across southern New Jersey and Delaware with the exception of the shore locations.
