Video: Blind man beaten, robbed no one helps in Germantown

A 33-year-old blind man walking alone in the Germantown section of Philadelphia was viciously beaten and robbed as passersby watched, according to police and surveillance video that captured the attack.

Police are now asking for help from the public in identifying a suspect in the attack, which occurred 12:06 p.m., Oct. 2. The assault was captured by a Philadelphia Police Department camera on the northeast corner of Wayne Avenue and Seymour Street.

According to police, the victim was walking east on Seymour Street, toward Wayne Avenue, when a man standing on a street corner, suddenly approaches. The video shows the suspect striking the blind man, knocking him to the ground, then proceeding to kick and stomp him.

Two men standing nearby on the corner watched, but did not nothing to help. Another man crossing the street watched, but also did not intervene.

The victim, who remained helpless, on the ground, in the crosswalk, received injuries to his face and head.

The suspect casually walked away south on Wayne Avenue.

Police describe the attacker as a black male, about 20 years-old, wearing a tan baseball cap, tan shirt, khaki pants and carrying a dark backpack.
