Ambulance company owners plead to $1.9M fraud

Two owners and a manager of a Trevose based ambulance company pleaded guilty today in defrauding Medicare of $1.9 million and violating the federal anti-kickback statute.

Nazrie Kmet, 35, of Jamison, and Bogan Kmet, 30, owed Life Support Corp.  which was managed by Rostislav Kmet, 26, of Philadelphia.  Federal prosecutors said the company transported patients who were able to walk and were not eligible for ambulance service.  Some patients were transported in personal vehicles and Medicare was billed as if an ambulance service had been provided.  The company also paid kickbacks so patients would continue to use Life Support services.

The three men face substantial prison terms and fines over $3.8 million when they are sentenced in federal court on Feb. 11, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office said.
