Three South Jersey residents and two from Philadelphia have been charged with prostitution-related offenses after a month long joint investigation between Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel police into ads on the website backpage.com.
Police say the women advertised themselves as escorts but were really prostitutes based on the services offered.
Officials say the goal was to expose the escorts for what they really were and to deter women from engaging in such acts in the future. The acts took place in local hotels and motels, police say.
