West Chester University's Holocaust and Genocide Studies program will hold its inaugural conference next Monday, March 26, an all-day session that will bring in leaders in the field from across the country to speak about portrayal of bigotry in cinema and theater.

"Representations of the 'Other' in Film and Theater" will begin at 8 a.m. There will be four panel discussions, with topics including representations of homosexuality, race and ethnicity, and the Holocaust.

Panelists will include professors from a number of universities, including Duke, George Washington and Tel Aviv, and an official from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Guests who stay after dinner can see the WCU Theatre Department's presentation of Bent, a play about the persecution of homosexuals in 1934 Berlin.

A film festival on March 25 will precede the conference, with three films focusing on bigotry. Both events will take place at Sykes Student Union Theater on Rosedale Avenue, and are free and open to the public.

Lunch, dinner, and tickets to Bent cost $25 as a package, or $10 for each meal. For more information and to register, go to wcupa.edu or contact Jonathan Friedman at 610-436-2972, or at jfriedman@wcupa.edu.
