3 South Jersey Pathmark stores closing Friday

The Pathmark stores in Cherry Hill, Camden and Edgewater Park are all slated to shut. Parent company Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. said in July that those locations would close because they weren't making money.

Friday is the last day in business for three Pathmark grocery stores in South Jersey.

The Pathmark stores in Cherry Hill, Camden and Edgewater Park are all slated to shut. Parent company Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. said in July that those locations would close because they weren't making money.

Customers who frequented those stores mourned the news of the upcoming closures this summer, and the closings will cost about 350 workers their jobs, according to the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

As the Pathmarks prepare to close, the stores have been advertising discounts of up to 90 percent this week, the Cherry Hill Courier-Post reports. By Tuesday, freezers were empty and lunch meat was labeled "$1 a pound while supplies last."

Some of the laid off meat cutters and bakery, deli and seafood workers may be able to transfer to other Pathmark stores if they have adequate seniority, union officials said when the closings were announced.
