3 hurt, 1 critically, in separate shootings

A total of three men were injured tonight in two seperate shootings about an hour apart, according to police.

Loretto Avenue near Magee, Oxford Circle

In the first incident, a 28-year-old male was robbed and shot by two men as he was parking his car near his home just after 9:30 p.m., Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The victim was shot four times - twice in the chest, once in the abdomen and once in the groin - and was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale campus, where he remains in critical but stable condition, Small said.

He told police that his two assailants forced him to lie on the ground and then stole his wallet, which contained about $500. But the punks weren't just happy with taking his money.

"After he was robbed, for some reason, he was shot four times at point-blank range," Small said.

A witness is being interviewed by Northeast Detectives tonight.

Fayette Street near Phil Ellena, East Mount Airy

About an hour after that first shooting, two more men were wounded by gunfire near a Chinese restaurant, Small said.

One victim, 18, was shot twice - once in the side and once in the buttocks - and another, 22, was shot once in the right wrist, Small said. Both were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where they remain in stable condition.

Initial ballistic evidence shows that three shots were fired from a semi-automatic handgun.

No information on a motive or suspect is available at this time, but surveillance footage from the scene is being reviewed, and a witness is being interviewed by Northwest Detectives.
