Nifty Fifty's diner burns in Bensalem

Local firefighters battled a blaze this morning that tore through the second floor then burned through the roof at Nifty Fifty’s restaurant in Bensalem, Bucks County.

The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. at the chain diner on the 2600 block of Street Road. A second alarm was called about 7 a.m.

The fire was heavy and additional crews were responding. It was not clear if anyone was inside at the time, but damage appeared to be extensive.

Crews declared the fire under control about 8:30 a.m.

Nifty Fifty's is a chain of five diners with locations in Pennsylvania and South Jersey that evoke diners of the 1950s with homemade french fries, hand-dipped milkshakes and a soda fountain.
