Police officer wounded in West Philadelphia

Police investigators were dispatched to 59th and Market Streets in Southwest Philadelphia on Sunday night after an officer was shot in the left leg.

The shooting was reported just after 9 p.m.

A detective in the Southwest Division said, "We're still piecing it together. We have officers out at the scene getting the details."

Police say the officer, whose name was not released, was chasing a suspect when the suspect opened fire.

The officer was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
