16-year-old shot dead inside father's CD, DVD store in West Philly

It was just after noon Sunday when the gunman walked into the West Philadelphia CD and DVD store, police said.

It was just after noon Sunday when the gunman walked into the West Philadelphia CD and DVD store, police said.

He pulled his gun and ordered 16-year-old Sean Jones to the floor, police documents say. Then, after speaking on his cellphone for a few minutes, the documents say, he shot Jones in the head and calmly walked out of Gary Global Enterprises, a shop owned by Jones' father.

Jones was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and declared dead about three hours later, according to the documents.

His father told police he was in the back of the store at the time of the shooting and heard a "thump," the documents say. When he came forward he found his son bleeding on the floor, according to the documents.

Attempts to reach his family Monday were unsuccessful, and police announced no arrest in the crime. The gunman is described in the documents as wearing a green hooded jacket.

The shooting was captured on surveillance video, the documents say, and the gunman was last seen walking north on 52nd Street.

Jason Brown, 29, who works at a Jamaican and West Indian delicatessen on the block, said the news shocked members of West Philadelphia's Jamaican community.

"It's like I'm still in denial," he said.

Brown, who said he had given Jones some leftover food on Saturday night, called him a quiet, respectful teen whom he had started seeing around the neighborhood in recent months.

"He wasn't somebody who messes with people," Brown said.

Ken Bailey, 59, who said he emigrated from Jamaica three decades ago, said his phone was bombarded with calls and text messages about the crime while he was playing soccer Sunday.

Jones "just seemed like a humble kid," said Bailey, who said he often ran into Jones outside his father's shop, which sold CDs and DVDs of Jamaican artists and movies.

"It's a shame," Bailey said. "He was a kid."
