A 28-year-old man shot Friday night as he was about to get into a tow truck has died, police said Saturday.

The man, shot in the head, was pronounced dead at Hahnemann University Hospital at 10:26 p.m. Friday, police said. His name was not released.

Another man, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the tow truck parked in the city's Tacony section, was shot and critically wounded.

Police said the 28-year-old man was about to enter the passenger side of the tow truck on the 6600 block of Hegerman Street when numerous shots were fired at him and the 48-year-old man already in the vehicle at about 8:15 p.m.

The older victim, who was shot several times, was taken by police to Aria Health-Torresdale Campus, where he remained in critical condition.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said Friday night that two unidentified men had approached the passenger side of the truck and began shooting inside.

He has said the shooting was captured on surveillance video. One of the victims had a gun still in a holster when he was shot, he said.

No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting remained unknown.
