No cause of death yet for Montco pediatrician jailed in child porn case

How and why a Montgomery County pediatrician arrested on child pornography charges died in county prison Sunday will remain a mystery to the public for at least several weeks.

How and why a Montgomery County pediatrician arrested on child pornography charges died in county prison Sunday will remain a mystery to the public for at least several weeks.

The county Coroner's Office is waiting for the results of toxicology and other tests before revealing how David Kennedy, 48, of Pennsburg, died, Alex Balacki, first deputy coroner, said Wednesday. A temporary death certificate lists Kennedy's cause of death as "pending." Complete death certificates in such cases take an average of five to eight weeks, he said.

The office will not release any specific results from the autopsy a coroner completed on Sunday, according to Balacki.

Kennedy, owner and supervising physician of Personal Care Pediatrics on Main Street, was declared dead at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the prison. County officials declined to say where in the prison he was found.

He was arrested Nov. 28 and charged with criminal use of a communication facility and five counts of possessing child pornography. According to police, Kennedy admitted visiting child pornography websites and saving images. He had been jailed on $250,000 bail.

Montgomery County detectives continue to investigate Kennedy's death, said Kate Delano, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.
