Police found a Bucks County woman dead in her home Thursday and were questioning a man who said he was her son and had killed her, they said.

Police found a Bucks County woman dead in her home Thursday and a man who said he was her son and had killed her is facing charges.

Zachary Cope, 30, was charged with criminal homicide and possessing an instrument of crime, according to court records.

He was being held at the Bucks County jail without bail after a preliminary arraignment late Thursday.

The suspect was "partially clad and appeared to have been in an altercation" as he flagged down a passing car on a township street Thursday afternoon, Lower Makefield Township police said.

He told the driver he had killed his mother and cited her address. Officers who went there found the dead woman.

Lower Makefield Township Police Chief Kenneth Coluzzi told reporters that the woman had suffered blunt trauma to her head and stab wounds to her body. Multiple news outlets were identifying the victim as Cope's mother, Rebecca Cope.

A preliminary hearing for Zachary Cope is scheduled for Wednesday.
