A city official said a standoff Tuesday evening has ended between police and a man who had been barricaded in a house in South Philadelphia.

Samantha Phillips, the city's director of emergency management, said on Twitter that the barricade in the 200 block of Morris Street had been resolved and residents could return to the area.

Chief Inspector Joseph Sullivan said the man had surrendered peacefully to police.

Earlier, police were advising people to avoid the area of Morris Street and Moyamensing Avenue because the man may have had access to a firearm.
