A 4-year-old boy who was visiting the United States for medical treatment died Tuesday night after falling from a seventh-floor apartment balcony near City Avenue, police said.
About 6:25 p.m., police and medics were called to the 3800 block of Conshohocken Avenue, where the boy had fallen 70 feet onto a parking lot, said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives.
The boy, who was from Saudi Arabia, was taken by medics to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and was pronounced dead at 7:12 p.m.
Walker said a window screen leading to the balcony was broken and the balcony was surrounded by railing that was about 4 feet high.
The boy's parents were home and the mother had given birth to another child several days ago, Walker said.
An Arab-language interpreter was called to assist with the investigation, which was ongoing.
Walker said police did not yet know what medical treatment the family sought for the boy in Philadelphia.
