Man fatally shot in West Philadelphia after breaking into ex-girlfriend's house, police say

A man was shot to death after he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home overnight.

A man was shot to death after he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home overnight.

The woman called police shortly before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday to report that someone was breaking into her home on the 800 block of North Markoe Street in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia through a window, according to police radio reports.

Once inside the residence, the man got into an altercation with the woman and then her new boyfriend, Lt. John Walker told reporters at the scene.

At some point, a gun was pulled and a shot was fired, striking the man in the chest.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

It wasn't immediately known who fired the weapon.

Two children were reported to be in the home at the time. No other injuries were reported.

A man was seen running from the home, police scanner reports said. Investigators were looking for the new boyfriend, who fled the scene after the shooting, 6ABC reported.
