A 32-year-old South Jersey man was sentenced Friday to 13 years in state prison after pleading guilty to the attempted murder of a woman with whom he had a relationship, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced Saturday.

Dwight Qawi Jr., of Mays Landing, Atlantic County, admitted to punching and kicking the woman at a Glassboro convenience store on July 31, 2015, causing serious head injuries, prosecutors said.

He was also sentenced to a three-year state prison term for not notifying police of an address change as required under Megan's Law for sex offenders, the office said. That sentence will run concurrently with his 13-year term.
