A Chester County woman was arrested Friday for crashing her minivan while under the influence of illicit drugs last summer, killing her 8-year-old daughter in the back seat.

Jennifer Trego, 32, of Coatesville, was charged Thursday with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and related offenses. She turned herself in to police Friday afternoon, police said.

On Aug. 13, 2015, Trego was driving on Wagontown Road in Coatesville with a suspended license when she approached an intersection to merge onto Route 82. After she failed to stop, a vehicle slammed into the side of her minivan as she merged onto the highway, police said.

Tests showed Trego had marijuana and unprescribed prescription drugs in her system at the time.

Coatesville police said they had been waiting for test results and the conclusion of their investigation to charge her.

Trego's daughter, Krista, attended Kings Highway Elementary School in West Caln Township, according to her obituary.

Trego was released on $20,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8.
