Three teenage boys were shot and critically wounded in an ambush Monday night in West Philadelphia, police said.

Around 10 p.m., the teens were leaving a basketball league game nearby and walking east on Baltimore Avenue at Edgewood Street when at least one gunman opened fire, said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives.

A 15-year-old boy was shot in the face, a 16-year-old was shot in the ankle, and a 14-year-old was shot in the arm. They were reported in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Walker said that there was a confrontation after a game last week involving some of the boys and Monday's shooting might be connected. Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the police department's tip line at 215-686-TIPS.
