W. Philly fire spreads to other homes, sends firefighters, residents to hospital

A fire that erupted at a West Philadelphia rowhouse early Saturday sent a few firefighters and residents to a hospital for minor injuries and spread to at least two other homes, authorities said.

A fire that erupted at a West Philadelphia rowhouse early Saturday sent a few firefighters and residents to a hospital for minor injuries and spread to at least two other homes, authorities said.

Flames broke out at the home on the 5800 block of Larchwood Avenue at about 1:05 a.m., with heavy fire on the first and second floors, a Fire Department dispatcher said.

The dwelling was fully engulfed and the fire spread to at least two other homes.

A few firefighters were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for minor injuries and were in stable condition, the dispatcher said. Two female residents were also taken to Penn Presbyterian for smoke inhalation.

The fire was put under control at 1:46 a.m. and was being investigated by the Fire Marshal's Office.
