Teen who jumped into Delaware River is found, dies

A 16-year-old boy drowned after he jumped in the Delaware River near Fishtown late Thursday afternoon, police said, authorities said.

A 16-year-old boy drowned after he jumped in the Delaware River near Fishtown late Thursday afternoon, police said, authorities said.

Around 5 p.m., the boy jumped into the river near Penn Treaty Park and did not resurface, police said.

Police and fire department boat crews were deployed to search for him, and his body was recovered about an hour later by the police marine unit.

Rescuers attempted to resuscitate the teen, who had no vital signs. He was transported by medics to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m.
