DA asks judge to prevent sale of Feasterville home where girls were found

When police arrived at the Feasterville home of Lee Kaplan last month, he led them to five children assembled in the dining room. Then police found more girls hiding - on the second floor, in the basement, and in the chicken coop outside, where a 17-year-old girl was holding her sister's 6-month-old baby.

Police officers acting on a tip found 51-year-old Lee Kaplan at his Feasterville, Pa., home, along with 12 girls ranging in age from six months to 18 years.

When police arrived at the Feasterville home of Lee Kaplan last month, he led them to five children assembled in the dining room. Then police found more girls hiding - on the second floor, in the basement, and in the chicken coop outside, where a 17-year-old girl was holding her sister's 6-month-old baby.

Lower Southampton Township Detective Sgt. Shane Hearn gave that account at a Bucks County Court proceeding Thursday, where the District Attorney's Office was requesting an order to bar Kaplan, who is being held on rape charges, from selling the rundown home where the 12 girls were found in June.

Bucks County Court Judge Jeffrey L. Finley said he likely would rule on the matter Friday morning.

Kaplan appeared in the courtroom in handcuffs and a bright-yellow jumpsuit, with curly gray hair past his shoulders and a long beard. He rocked in his chair as he listened to the proceeding and was talkative with his attorneys.

Kaplan told police that the oldest girl in the house, now 18, was "gifted" to him at 14 and that he soon impregnated her. Two of the girls in the house, the 6-month-old and a 3-year-old, were their children. The rest were the girls' younger sisters.

Kaplan is being held in prison on $1 million bail.

The girl's parents, Daniel and Savilla Stoltzfus, are being held on child-endangerment charges.
