A purse snatcher stole about $600 from a 53-year-old woman in a wheelchair who was doing her laundry in West Philadelphia, police said Friday.

A purse snatcher stole about $600 from a 53-year-old woman in a wheelchair who was doing her laundry in West Philadelphia, police said Friday.

About 1:15 p.m. June 24, the male suspect and a female accomplice arrived by car to the laundromat, at 5101 Walnut St., as seen on a surveillance video.

After appearing to put money in a laundry machine, the accomplice left the laundromat.

The man then snatched the victim's purse and fled back to the car, a light-colored sedan, where the woman was waiting.

As the victim tried to stop the thief, she nearly fell from her wheelchair, police said. She told the police her purse contained debit cards and $600 in cash.

The man was described as black, about 30 years old, with a beard. He was wearing a striped shirt, light-colored pants, and black-and-white sneakers. His accomplice was black and was wearing a multicolored head scarf.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or the Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183.
