Six SEPTA rail lines restored; delays expected

Six SEPTA Regional Rail lines were suspended for about an hour Sunday afternoon because of an issue at the agency's Wayne Junction power station, officials said.

Six SEPTA Regional Rail lines were suspended for about an hour Sunday afternoon because of an issue at the agency's Wayne Junction power station, officials said.

The signal system and the overhead power lines that power the trains were down due to a "temporary equipment failure" at the substation, which powers the northern half of the regional rail system, said Andrew Busch, a SEPTA spokesman.

Busch did not know exactly what caused the problem, but he said the facility dates back to the 1930s.

"We do run into these issues from time to time," he said.

He said the disruption began around 1:30 p.m. and forced the suspension of the following lines: Chestnut Hill East, Fox Chase, Lansdale/Doylestown, Manayunk/Norristown, Warminster and West Trenton.

Service was restored about an hour later. Officials had warned of residual delays of up to an hour in the afternoon, but service was normal by 6 p.m. Sunday.
