Woman fatally struck by Uber driver in North Philadelphia

A woman was struck and killed when she tried to cross a street mid-block in North Philadelphia overnight. Police said the 56-year-old woman stepped between two parked cars, then into oncoming traffic, on Cecil B. Moore Avenue near Ridge Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the 56-year-old woman stepped between two parked cars, then into oncoming traffic, on Cecil B. Moore Avenue near Ridge Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

She was then hit by a Honda Accord, police said, and taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where she died at 1:47 a.m..

The vehicle was being operated by an Uber driver.

The 34-year-old male driver stayed at the scene, police said. Officials said the driver wasn't impaired and no charges had been filed. The motorist wasn't injured.

"Our hearts go out to the victim," Uber said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities to assist in their investigation."
