A Chadds Ford man has been identified as the victim in a deadly head-on crash in Delaware this week.

Delaware State Police said Thursday John L. Santangelo, 58, died from injuries suffered in the Wednesday morning collision in Hockessin.

Santangelo's 2011 Toyota Rav 4 was hit head-on when 26-year-old Brandon Harper, of Hockessin, lost control over his 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Harper, who was driving north on Montchanin Road near Adams Dam Road, drove over railroad tracks, lost control and veered into the southbound lanes, hitting Santangelo head-on just after 7:45 a.m., police said.

The Toyota spun off the road, then struck and landed on top of a stone wall.

Santangelo, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where he died.

Harper was also hospitalized.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and no charges had been filed as of Thursday. Alcohol did not appear to have been a factor, officials said.
