Camden's Night Gardens will take over the plaza in front of City Hall on Friday with an "Intergalactic Block Party" that includes colorful light projections, art installations, live music, and more.

The free outdoor event, from 7 to 10 p.m., is the third annual Night Gardens festival, but the first time it will be at Roosevelt Plaza. It's also the start of a series of summer events, including outdoor movies, concerts, and Tuesday evening yoga on the waterfront, that are part of the city's "Connect the Lots" program.

This summer, Connect the Lots events will pop up in all corners of Camden, such as a health fair and concert on Federal Street in East Camden on June 10 and an Olympics Day at Pyne Poynt Park in North Camden on June 25.

At the outer-space-theme festival Friday, City Hall will serve as the backdrop for projections, and there will be interactive installations courtesy of the artists Nitemind and Idée Fixe. There also will be a car show, as well as performances by DJ Cosmo Baker, the Camden High School marching band, and the Camden Sophisticated Sisters and Distinguished Brothers drill teams.

The programs are supported by Cooper's Ferry Partnership, the city and Camden County, and a number of corporate and nonprofit sponsors including the William Penn Foundation, the Campbell Soup Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
