A Camden man has been charged in connection with an execution-style killing last week outside a funeral home where the victim had been mourning his grandmother, authorities said Sunday.

Victor Rodriguez, 31, was arrested by Camden County Police around 8 p.m. Saturday. A police source said he was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Jonathan Vasquez, 22, who was killed Thursday night in front of the May Funeral Home in Camden's Bergen Square section.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office on Sunday would say only that Rodriguez had been charged with being an accomplice in the crime and would not specify which specific counts he was facing. Rodriguez was sent to Camden County jail on $1 million bail, the prosecutor's office said.Vasquez and his family had been attending a memorial service Thursday evening for his grandmother when he was struck by gunfire outside the funeral home, police said. He was take to Cooper University Hospital and pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.

Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said after the shooting that authorities had seen a surge in violence recently due to "vendettas or perceived slights" in the community.
